My Favorite Books of 2024

It's been a sparse year for le livre en rose, loath as I am to admit it. Most of my book tracking has taken place on Goodreads, not here. But change is impending: for the last calendar year ever, my reading taste was largely dictated by my classes. When I'm liberated (graduated, expelled) from those weird desk-chair amalgamations in the classrooms of college campus humanities buildings—who's to say what my reading lists will look like. I'm trying to savor all my professors' contrived syllabi for as long as possible. And maybe I'll miss the demands of essays and papers, papers and essays, that have sometimes prevented me from contributing regularly to this site. I may never write a paper on esoteric German Romantics, Sappho's poetry, or Restoration drama again.

I'll miss you all, weird and beguiling dead literati. But you also made it incredibly difficult to put together a "best of" list that makes any sense for the average American reader. Nevertheless, here goes:

Done scraping for a bit to run into my first problem: I don't think I can (easily) do two columns. I mean, I could do it pretty easily with HTML/CSS, but like, I don't think Kathryn can. So. But also, I don't know that I like the look when that is what's done. So.

Kathryn also does this thing where she really likes these block quote type things. Let's see if I can imitate that.

What the hell is this

Alright I don't think that's exactly what I want

Jesus Christ

what the hell is this

That's not it either. Let's try the callout one more time.

I mean, this lacks the quote part, which is sad. So I should probably work on this.
This is a pull quote test — Walt Disney

I guess that's better?

One more thing:

Hello world?

That looks the same. Damn

One more try, then I promise I'm done.

Here goes nothing!

That still looks the same.

Ok, well at least I can copy that over, seemingly just fine.
